Aggie Equestrian Announces Signing Class

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State equestrian head coach Robin Morris-Walters announced Thursday afternoon the signing of six student-athletes to National Letters of Intent, joining the team for the 2014-15 academic year.

Pearl Aebly and Kimberly Ferrante join the Western squad, while Erica Alfiero, Madison Brayman, Grace McMurry and Remington Willkie will be members of the Hunter Seat team.

“We are excited to add these talented riders to our roster,” Morris-Walters said. “This concludes the signing of one of the strongest recruiting classes NM State Equestrian has brought in. These recruits will add quality and depth to our team while continuing our tradition of academic excellence. NM State Equestrian Earns 24 NCEA Academic Awards

WACO, TX - The National Collegiate Equestrian Association on Tuesday announced its annual academic awards, including the Academic Team and the Academic Honor Roll.

The Aggies landed 24 riders on this year’s list, including nine first team honorees, one second team selection, two honorable mention picks and 12 student-athletes on the honor roll.

To qualify for the Academic first team, a rider must have competed in 70 percent of her team’s meets and must have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.5. To qualify for the Academic second team, a rider must have competed in 60 percent of her team’s meets, while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.25. To earn honorable mention Academic honors, a rider must have participated in 50 percent of her team’s meets and must have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0.

The NCEA Academic Honor Roll recognizes the top academic student-athletes who have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.25.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NM State Equestrian Selected As The No. 7 Seed At 2014 NCEA Championships

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State equestrian team has earned the No. 7 seed at the 2014 National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) National Championship, it was announced today. This year's championship runs April 17-19 at the Extraco Events Center in Waco, Texas.

Along with the No. 7 seed, NM State (9-5) will face No. 10 seed SMU on April 17 then No. 2 seed Oklahoma State.

This year marks the first year that the NCEA's national champion will be determined using the dual meet competition format, which teams currently compete under during the regular season. Previously, hunt seat and western teams were split up in to separate brackets, and points were awarded based on where a team finished in each bracket.

NM State Equestrian Announces Signing Class

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State Equestrian head coach Robin Morris-Walters announced the signing of three student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. Corynne Cromwell will join the Hunter Seat squad and Katlynn Crine and Alexa Mercier will join the Western line up.

Two Equestrian Horses Honored By Chronicle Of The Horse And NCEA

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) and The Chronicle of the Horse have announced this year’s top horses in collegiate equestrian. New Mexico State landed two horses on this list; Equitation over Fences horse Aridus, donated by Phil & Megan Dawson and Horsemanship horse Totally Bodacious, donated by Bonnie Elber were honored.

The top ten horses were selected from each of the four events that the NCEA competes in – Reining, Horsemanship, Equitation on the Flat, and Equitation Over Fences.

Emily McConnell Named NCEA All-American

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The National Collegiate Equestrian Association has announced Monday morning its 2013 All-America class. Junior Emily McConnell was the lone Aggie to receive the honor, being named an honorable mention selection. This is also the second straight year she has earned All-America honors.

"We are proud to have a student-athlete recognized at the national level,” head coach Robin Morris-Walters said. “Being named to the All-America Honorable Mention list is a big honor and is a testament to Emily's ability and dedication to the Equestrian sport. She is a steadfast competitor for her team and certainly deserves it."

McConnell ended the regular season with an overall record at 11-6 with three MVP honors all coming in Equitation over Fences. She tallied a record of 8-3 in Equitation over Fences and 3-3 in Equitation on the Flat.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Lauren DeVoe Named NCEA March Horsemanship Rider Of The Month

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State’s Lauren DeVoe was the nation’s top rider in Horsemanship during March. DeVoe went 3-0 in Horsemanship for the Aggies last month and was named Most Outstanding Player in Horsemanship for the Skyhawk Invitational.

She went 2-0 at the inaugural tournament in Martin, Tenn., picking up wins over South Dakota State and Fresno State. DeVoe was recently recognized for her academic success at the Wells Fargo Academic Honor Night and the Crimson & White Scholar Banquet. She was also named a first team honor roll member in early April.

The Aggies will compete at the National Collegiate Equestrian Championships, April 18-20 in Waco, Texas.

NM State Equestrian Lands 11 Academic Awards

Hensley Named Equestrian Assistant Coach

Jessica Hensley is the most recent addition to the coaching staff of the New Mexico State University Equestrian Team. She will be joining the Aggies as the assistant hunt seat coach, under Head Coach Robin Morris-Walters.

"I am very excited to add Coach Hensley to our coaching staff. She has an extensive background in the hunter seat events and was a student-athlete in a well respected Equestrian program. Morris-Walters Named Head Equestrian Coach

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State Athletics Director Dr. McKinley Boston announced Wednesday that equestrian assistant coach Robin Morris-Walters has been named head coach after the departure of head coach Audrey Buck, who had been the program’s head coach for the past two seasons.

Morris-Walters begins her fourth year with the program handling the coaching duties for the Western team. A national coaching search will begin immediately for an assistant coach with a Hunter Seat
