bleedCrimson.net Weekly Coach Menzies Interview :: 02/02/09

bleedCrimson.net will be interviewing Aggie men's head basketball coach Marvin Menzies throughout the 2008/2009 season as the Aggies take aim at their third consecutive WAC championship. This week talked with Coach Menzies about the home sweep of San Jose State and Hawai'i, the Bracketbusters matchup, Gordo Castillo and the upcoming road trip against Utah State and Nevada.

bleedCrimson.net: Your thoughts on the San Jose State game?
Marvin Menzies: I was a little worried about that one coming in. I knew their team was going to come in hard having lost at home in a close game, in a game they felt they could have won. Then obviously it was going to be one of those deals where you've got to make sure your guys are ready to play. I think we showed that, we responded. I was happy to see our guys had a lot of energy and came out with some passion and got the job done.  Continue Reading This Post >>

bleedCrimson.net will be interviewing Aggie men's head basketball coach Marvin Menzies throughout the 2008/2009 season as the Aggies take aim at their third consecutive WAC championship. This week talked with Coach Menzies about the road trip to Boise and Moscow, rebounding against Boise State and the upcoming games against San Jose State and Hawai'i.

bleedCrimson.net: Your thoughts on the Boise State game?
Marvin Menzies: Boise was a well fought battle by our kids. We had a few defensive lapses in defensive transition that hurt us in the big picture. We had a chance to get it done down the stretch, the ball bounced literally the wrong way a couple of possessions. But with all that being said we still had a chance to make a shot and put it into overtime, it just fell a little short. That was kind of a microcosm of the game. Just fell a little short.  Continue Reading This Post >>

bleedCrimson.net will be interviewing Aggie men's head basketball coach Marvin Menzies throughout the 2008/2009 season as the Aggies take aim at their third consecutive WAC championship. This week talked with Coach Menzies about the victory over Idaho, what makes Wendell McKines a great rebounder and the upcoming games against Boise State and Idaho on the road.

bleedCrimson.net: Your thoughts on the Idaho game?
Marvin Menzies: The Idaho game was obviously a big win for us being that we really needed that win coming off two home losses and playing another game at home and having that opportunity of playing at home three games in a row, I thought it was big that we didn't get swept here in those three games. That was huge for us. I knew it was going to be a close game with them being much improved and pulling it out down the stretch was critical.  Continue Reading This Post >>

bleedCrimson.net will be interviewing Aggie men's head basketball coach Marvin Menzies throughout the 2008/2009 season as the Aggies take aim at their third consecutive WAC championship. This week talked with Coach Menzies about the losses to Nevada and Utah State, the continued learning and growth of the team and their upcoming game against Idaho.

bleedCrimson.net: Your thoughts on the Nevada game this past Thursday night.
Marvin Menzies: Nevada was a very very disappointing loss. I thought we did enough and played well enough to win the game and we made critical errors down the stretch that cost us a 'W'. You don't know if you can get that opportunity back. They're going to be at their house and it could be a different situation next time and it could have been a lost opportunity. However it's over and you try to move forward like we tried to do against Utah State. It's one of those deals where Nevada came in and we thought we had a solid gameplan against them and I thought we did a very good job but you win games in the last few minutes of the game quite often and that's where we did not make the right decisions that cost us the game.  Continue Reading This Post >>

bleedCrimson.net will be interviewing Aggie men's head basketball coach Marvin Menzies throughout the 2008/2009 season as the Aggies take aim at their third consecutive WAC championship. This week talked with Coach Menzies about the road sweep and previewed Nevada and Utah State.

bleedCrimson.net: Going back to the UNM game what was the team able to learn from that game that helped you in this past road trip?
Marvin Menzies: I think losing the game at the very end there with some of the decisions we made gave us some great footage and great experience to take and learn from. Luckily we were able to make better decisions, not all the accurate ones, but better decisions at San Jose down the stretch. We didn't have the same situation at Fresno State because we had a pretty comfortable lead and every time they made a run at us our guys did a good job of responding. But the San Jose game I think it really bodes well for us to have that tight game against New Mexico.  Continue Reading This Post >>

bleedCrimson.net Weekly Coach Menzies Interview :: 12/29/08

bleedCrimson.net will be interviewing Aggie men's head basketball coach Marvin Menzies throughout the 2008/2009 season as the Aggies take aim at their third consecutive WAC championship. This week we recapped the rivalry games against UTEP in El Paso, UNM in Albuquerque, the home victory over Loyola Marymount plus look ahead at the rematch with New Mexico and the start of conference play against Fresno State and San Jose State.

bleedCrimson.net: Your thoughts on the UTEP game in El Paso?
Marvin Menzies: That was a disappointing loss because I felt like we took a step backwards in our own development. We didn't go out there and do what we did well and that's execute and that's partially due to their defense and they did a good job. There's a lot of emotion that caused us to get distracted and focus on things that weren't really that important that we shouldn't have been focusing on and our execution was really bad. I was really disappointed after that game because we took a step backwards. But the next game against UNM I thought we played better, unfortunately we didn't play well enough to win.   Continue Reading This Post >>

bleedCrimson.net will be interviewing Aggie men's head basketball coach Marvin Menzies throughout the 2008/2009 season as the Aggies take aim at their third consecutive WAC championship. This week we recapped last week's games against Sacramento State and I-10 rival UTEP and looked ahead at this week's games against Prairie View A&M and the rematch in El Paso with UTEP.

bleedCrimson.net: Your thoughts on the Sacramento State game.
Marvin Menzies: I was happy to see us concentrate on the execution. I had a feeling that we were going to have a tough time with them just based on the fact that our guys sometimes have a tendency to look at teams that aren't ranked high or don't have a really good record and overlook them and kind of play down a little bit. Luckily we played well enough. I don't think we played great but there was some good execution there that we were able to build off of.  Continue Reading This Post >>

bleedCrimson.net Weekly Coach Menzies Interview :: 07/30/08

bleedCrimson.net spoke with Aggie basketball head coach Marvin Menzies to talk about this season's schedule which was announced on Wednesday.

View the 2008/2009 Men's Basketball Schedule

bleedCrimson.net: Talk about the schedule overall.
Marvin Menzies: We're very pleased with the final schedule. The team that we have this year will be very young. No seniors, just one junior going into the season and we've got a lot of growth ahead of us, a lot of development that we're anticipating. We wanted to create an opportunity to have different types of looks. SOme road games, some very high-major teams as well as scheduling some teams that we feel pretty confident that if we play well we can beat them and give them a nice blend with a competitive edge to it so that they can be fully prepared going into our regular conference schedule.  Continue Reading This Post >>

bleedCrimson.net Weekly Coach Menzies Interview :: 07/11/08

bleedCrimson.net caught up with Aggie basketball head coach Marvin Menzies at the end of last week and Coach Menzies shared his thoughts on the rule change that has the three point line moving back a foot, gave a little insight into next season's schedule and talked about the one-and-done freshmen.

bleedCrimson.net: One of the rules changes this year in college basketball is the moving of the three point line back to 20 feet 9 inches from 19 feet 9 inches. What impact will that have on the college game and what impact will it have on the Aggies?
Marvin Menzies: I don't think it'll affect us much because I like to get guys to step all the way to the line when they shoot but unfortunately we weren't always able to do that and I think several times we shot too far behind the line. But after having a full season behind me I was able to identify things that I want to do in terms of correlating how many threes we want to take in a game and who I want taking threes and just having a comfort level coming into this season. I think that foot that's been added onto the three point line isn't going to be significant where it's going affect us in any demonstrative way. As other guys handling and how teams are going to handle it I'm not sure, some guys might strategically shoot less because of that, some guys might feel like that's going to go to their strengths if they have more shooters. I think for us, we're going to be business as usual and hopefully we're going to shoot a higher percentage because of our team development and the new players we have but I don't think it'll have anything to do with the added distance.  Continue Reading This Post >>

bleedCrimson.net Weekly Coach Menzies Interview :: 03/27/08

bleedCrimson.net caught up with Aggie basketball head coach Marvin Menzies this week and Coach Menzies shared his thoughts on the season, talked about some of the offseason improvements that his young players need to make and shares his pick for the NCAA tournament.

bleedCrimson.net: Now that you've had a couple weeks to digest and look back, what are your overall thoughts on the season?
Marvin Menzies: Obviously it was an up and down year in the very beginning but then things started rolling a little bit when started to get our chemistry together both with the seniors and freshmen trying to shorten that gap between them in a variety of ways. I think as that started to develop and we got al our kids back and got everybody healthy and on the floor we had a chance to start our growth and development. I think once we got going, luckily it was before conference started when we had a chance to get everybody there. Then we ended up on a positive note. I wish we would have had everybody the whole time but that's spilled milk and you just do the best you can and our best was three overtimes and a couple points short. Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to make it to The Dance this year but that's our goal every year so we're optimistic that we can build on the new team next year. It'll be a young team but we'll just do the best we can.  Continue Reading This Post >>
