Seventeen Aggies Earn Academic All-WAC Honors

DENVER, CO - The Western Athletic Conference today announced the 2016 Academic All-WAC honorees from men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball. To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests. A total of 17 student-athletes from New Mexico State were named to the list.

Ashley Martin Named WAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player Of The Week

DENVER, CO – NM State’s Ashley Martin has been named Western Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 3-9.

Martin, a sophomore from Rio Rancho, N.M. (Cleveland HS), allowed just one goal and made 11 saves to help NM State secure a road draw against UMKC on Sunday. In a match where the ‘Roos outshot the Aggies 34-6, Martin made five saves in the first half to help the Aggies stay within striking distance and closed the match with four saves in the first overtime. She also started in the Aggies’ win over Chicago State on Friday, making two saves and allowing no goals during her 45 minutes of action. Martin had a .929 save percentage on the week and her 82 saves on the season place her 19th in the nation.

NMSU Soccer Honored With NSCAA Team Academic Award

KANSAS CITY, MO - The 2015-16 New Mexico State women’s soccer team was honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America on Thursday as the NSCAA announced its Team Academic Award.

To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic year. The team GPA was determined by every player’s GPA, then dividing by the number of players.

New Mexico State checked in with a team GPA of 3.45 and was one of six schools in the Western Athletic Conference to earn the honor with Grand Canyon and UMKC earning the honor for both men’s and women’s.

New Mexico State opens WAC play this Friday, Oct. 7, at noon against Chicago State before flying to Kansas City to face off against UMKC at noon on Sunday, Oct. 9, on the WAC Digital Network.

Aileen Galicia Named WAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player Of The Week

DENVER, CO - New Mexico State women’s soccer sophomore forward Aileen Galicia was named the Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday by the conference after firing in her first career hat trick.

This is the first weekly honor for NM State in 2016 and the first since Rian Nials was named defensive player of the week on Sept. 28 last season. She's also the first player in the WAC to record a hat trick this season.

Galicia’s hat trick was just the second one in program history. Yolanda McMillion was the only other player to record a hat trick, knocking in three of her own back on Aug. 29, 2010, against Prairie View A&M in an 8-0 win.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Soccer Picked To Finish Sixth In WAC Preseason Coaches Poll

DENVER, CO - The New Mexico State women's soccer team was picked to finish sixth this season in the preseason poll voted on by the league's head coaches the Western Athletic Conference announced on Wednesday.

Head coach Freddy Delgado's team secured 19 points in the preseason poll, one spot down from the Aggies' fifth-place finish in 2015 where they went 4-6-0. The four wins in conference play last season tied for the most wins during league play by the Aggies since their inaugural season in 2009 where they finished 4-3-1.

The Aggies return 9-of-11 starters while reloading with 11 newcomers – three of which are junior college transfers. NM State will also have the services of three of its top four point scorers last season in Aileen Galicia (12 points), Holly Abdelkader (11 points) and Devin Hart (10 points).  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Soccer Unveils 2016 Schedule

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State head women's soccer coach Freddy Delgado released the fall schedule for 2016 on Wednesday.

This upcoming season's schedule features a tough stretch on the road during non-conference play for the Aggies. Of the 11 matches in non-conference play, only three are held at the NM State Soccer Complex.

New Mexico State will open the 2016 season with some excitement as it heads down I-10 to face UTEP (Aug. 19) for a 7 p.m. (MT) bout. The Aggies then head west for a 1 p.m. battle with Northern Arizona on Aug. 22.

The road stretch continues four days later as NM State faces off against Valparaiso (Aug. 26) at 6:30 p.m. (MT), followed by a noon match-up against UIC on Sunday (Aug. 28).  Continue Reading This Post >>

Eighteen Aggies Earn All-WAC Academic Fall Sport Honors

DENVER, CO - The 2015 academic all-WAC men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer and volleyball teams have been announced for the fall. A total of 258 student-athletes including 18 New Mexico State student-athletes representing men's and women's cross country, soccer and volleyball, were named to the list for the fall. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests. Rivera Enters Training Camp For Puerto Rican U-20 National Team

Dominque Rivera is set to begin qualifying for the Puerto Rican U20 Women’s National Team and an opportunity to play in the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.

PORT AU PRINCE, HAITI - Dominque Rivera of the NM State women’s soccer team is set to begin qualifying for the Puerto Rican U20 Women’s National Team today in Port au Prince, Haiti.

Rivera became the first player in program history to ever enter qualifying for any national team. “It’s insane,” Rivera said. “I’ve always dreamed about it and as soon as it was here, I was like ‘oh my gosh!’ It’s such a wonderful opportunity. I couldn’t be more blessed to have this. I get to represent my family and my country. It’s just amazing. I can’t put it into words.”

Rian Nials Named WAC Women's Soccer Defender Of The Week

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State freshman Rian Nials was selected as the Western Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Defensive of the Week for her action last week.

In the Aggies only game last week, the freshman from Radium Springs, N.M./Las Cruces Mayfield returned to the field for the first time since Aug. 30.

Entering Sunday’s game with UT Rio Grande Valley at halftime with the Vaqueros leading 1-0, Nials saved all three UTRGV shots on goal in the second half.

Her clean half of play allowed NM State to rally behind a pair of second half goals to open conference play with a 2-1 victory.

It was Nials first collegiate career victory in goal.

“Rian did a great job in goal for us in the second half,” said NM State Coach Freddy Delgado. “She stopped every shot at her and gave the offense a chance. It’s a great honor for her and the team.”  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Soccer Picked Sixth; Abdelkader Named Preseason All-WAC

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The Western Athletic Conference released its preseason women’s soccer coaches’ poll and All-WAC honors on Wednesday as New Mexico State finished ranked in a tie for sixth by the coaches while Aggie midfielder Holly Abdelkader was placed on the Preseason All-WAC list.

The coaches placed NM State in a tie for sixth with the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, formerly Texas-Pan American, in the eight-team conference. The Aggies and UTRGV both earned 17 points, ahead of only Chicago State who finished in eighth with eight points.  Continue Reading This Post >>
