Freddy Delgado Named Head Women's Soccer Coach

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State Athletics Director Dr. McKinley Boston announced Thursday that Freddy Delgado has been named the Aggies new women’s head soccer coach. Delgado has been the interim head coach since mid-November after the resignation of Blair Quinn.

“I want to thank Dr. Boston, the administration and the women’s soccer program for giving me this wonderful opportunity,” Delgado said. “I believe in New Mexico State, the athletic department, the administration and the direction NM State is going. Blair Quinn Resigns Position As Head Women's Soccer Coach

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State Athletics Director McKinley Boston announced Thursday afternoon that he has received and accepted a letter of resignation from women’s soccer coach Blair Quinn and named assistant coach, Freddie Delgado, as interim head coach pending the outcome of a national search that will begin immediately.

“We thank Blair for his contributions and support in the building of our women’s soccer program,” Boston said.

Jennae Cambra Named Second Team All-WAC

New Mexico State junior forward Jennae Cambra garnered Second Team All-WAC honors as the league announced its postseason awards on Tuesday morning.

Earlier in the year, Cambra was named the WAC Offensive Player of the Week for her three goal performance during the week of Oct. 7-13 scoring twice against Utah Valley and once against Cal State-Bakersfield.

Cambra finished her junior season second on the team in goals with four, second on the team in shots with 31, tied for second on the team with two assists and was second on the team in points with 10. Cambra played in 19 of the Aggies' 20 matches while starting 11 times seeing 1,023 minutes of action.

The Aggies finished the 2013 season with a 5-13-2 record overall and 2-9-1 record in WAC play.

Jennae Cambra Named WAC Soccer Offensive Player Of The Week

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State soccer’s Jannae Cambra was named Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 7-13, the conference office announced Monday morning.

Cambra, a junior forward from Morgan Hill, Calif. (Sobrato HS), scored each of the Aggies’ three goals over the weekend with five shots on goal. She helped NM State comeback from a 2-0 deficit at Utah Valley, scoring two goals to secure a 2-2 tie. She also scored NM State’s lone goal in a 2-1 double-overtime loss at Bakersfield earlier in the week. Over her two matches, Cambra recorded three goals, five shots on goal and six points.

NM State (4-9-2, 1-5-1 WAC) continues on the road with a trip to Grand Canyon on Friday, Oct. 18 at 8 p.m.

Jessica Schutter Named WAC Defensive Player Of The Week

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State senior goalkeeper Jessica Schutter earned WAC Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for Sept. 9-15. This is her first career honor and the first for the Aggies in 2013.

Schutter led the Aggies to two shutouts in the final non-conference weekend of the season. She didn’t give up a goal in 200 minutes of action. At Northern Colorado, Schutter grabbed seven saves, tying a career-high mark. She helped the Aggies to a 0-0 tie against UNC in double overtime. At Wyoming, Schutter recorded her second shutout of the weekend with a career-high nine saves in the 1-0 victory. It marks the first time Schutter has recorded back-to-back shutouts in her career. She has three shutouts this season and six in her career, which ties her for first on NM State’s career shutout list.

Aggie Soccer Picked Fifth In Preseason Poll; Todd Named Preseason All-WAC

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State women’s soccer team was voted to finish fifth in the WAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll, which is voted on by the league’s seven head coaches.

Seattle U was selected as the favorite to win the 2013 soccer title. The 2013 WAC Preseason All-Conference team and preseason players of the year were also announced as voted on by the league’s head coaches.

Seattle U received six first-place votes for 36 total points. Idaho and Utah Valley tied to finish second in the poll, each receiving 23 points. UVU did earn one first-place vote. Bakersfield placed fourth in the poll with 22 points. New Mexico State was selected fifth with 21 points. Kansas City was picked sixth with 13 points. Grand Canyon was seventh with nine points.

Junior forward Layla Todd earned Preseason All-WAC team honors. She led the Aggies in shots (25) and goals (4) in 2012.

Seattle U junior forward Stephanie Verdoia garnered WAC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year honors, while teammate senior midfielder Julia Besagno was selected as the WAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.

Seattle U and Idaho led WAC teams with three preseason all-conference selections each. Bakersfield and Utah Valley each had two honorees, while New Mexico State had one representative.

The 2013 WAC season is set to kickoff Aug. 23 with all of the WAC's teams in action. The WAC Soccer Tournament heads to New Mexico State's Soccer Complex in Las Cruces, N.M. The four-team tournament will be held Nov. 8 and 10.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Quinn Adds Ashley Botts To Soccer Staff

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State soccer head coach Blair Quinn has added Ashley Botts to his staff as a graduate assistant. She arrived in Las Cruces following an All-America career at Grand Valley State in Allendale, Mich.

“I’m very excited about Ashley joining our staff,” Quinn said. “Ashley is an attacking-minded person, which is going to help us tremendously.”

A forward, Botts was a four-year starter for the Lakers from 2009-12. She led GVSU to a pair of NCAA Division II National Championships in 2009 and 2010 and an 84-4-13 record in her tenure. At the conclusion of her career, she ranked third on GVSU’s all-time list in total points with 163 (67 goals and 29 assists) and third in career goals (67). New Mexico State Soccer Opens Training Camp Wednesday

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State soccer team begins practice for the 2013 season, Wednesday, Aug. 7. The Aggies start training camp with two sessions at 7-9 a.m. and 6-8 p.m.

NM State has 16 players returning from the 2012 squad including six starters. The Aggies have nine newcomers on the roster this season.

Head coach Blair Quinn said he is ready to kickoff practice for 2013, which is his third season in Las Cruces.

“We’re excited,” he said. “It’s about time. It seems like forever since we last played. With the new staff, Freddy and Ashley, it’s like a whole new team in a way. Aggies Announce 2013 Soccer Schedule

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State soccer head coach Blair Quinn released the 2013 schedule that consists of 10 home matches. The schedule features a pair of NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago and a rivalry match in Las Cruces. The Aggies are also hosting the WAC Tournament for the first time.

Quinn Adds Salina Lucero To 2013 Class

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State soccer head coach Blair Quinn has signed forward/midfielder Salina Lucero to a National Letter of Intent. She becomes the eighth member of the Class of 2013.

Lucero joins midfielder/forward Gabby Campbell, defender Melissa Canizalez, goalkeeper Tayler Hammack, forward Devin Hart, defender/midfielder Stephanie Petre, goalkeeper Taylor Rice and defender Maggie Sabik in the class.

"We've added Salina to the class and are very excited about it," Quinn said. "She is really good at pressing the other team's defenders into turnovers and causing problems. Salina is kind of like the fly at the barbeque. She is just annoying and buzzing around and buzzing around, and she causes problems.
