Aggie Soccer Picked To Finish 8th In Preseason Coaches Poll

The New Mexico State Aggie soccer team under the direction of first year head coach Blair Quinn was picked to finish 8th by the league's coaches in the preseason media poll. The Aggies are coming off a 2010 season which saw them finish 7-8-3 overall and 1-6-1 in WAC play. Quinn replaces Michael Needham who departed after the 2010 campaign to take over at his alma mater, Rhode Island. The Aggies return leading goal scorer Yolanda McMillion who tallied seven goals last season, however, the Aggies lose their second leading goal scorer and leader in assists, Crystal Burns (six goals, eight assists) who transferred to Quinnipiac in the offseason.

The Aggies open up the 2011 season on Friday, August 19th in El Paso as they take on I-10 rival UTEP. The Aggies open their home schedule one week later on Friday, August 26th as they take on Prairie View A&M.  Continue Reading This Post >>

New Mexico State Released 2011 Soccer Schedule

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State soccer head coach Blair Quinn announced the schedule for the 2011 season that features nine home matches. The fall campaign is highlighted with a pair of rivalry games and two NCAA Tournament teams.

For the third consecutive year, the Aggies open the season against I-10 rival UTEP (Aug. 19) in El Paso, Texas. The Miners hold a 1-0 series lead after the 2010 match was cancelled due to weather.

NM State meets six teams for the first time in school history when the Aggies face Texas Tech (Aug. 21) in Lubbock, Texas, Houston Baptist (Aug. 28) in Las Cruces, Tennessee Tech (Sept. 4) in Jacksonville, Ala., Arkansas-Little Rock (Sept. 11) in Las Cruces, Weber State (Sept. 18) in Ogden, Utah and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical (Sept. 23) in Las Cruces.

“The opening weekend is really good,” Quinn said. “It’s something we’re looking forward to. Obviously, everyone always wants to get started and play that first game. UTEP is a rivalry game, and Texas Tech is a very good team out of the Big 12. It will be a very challenging opening weekend on the road for us to get started, and we’ll find out right away where we are at, how good we are and how much we need to improve.”  Continue Reading This Post >>

Quinn Promotes Sobrero To Assistant Coach

LAS CRUCES, N.M. -New Mexico State soccer head coach Blair Quinn has promoted Cortney Sobrero to assistant coach. Sobrero spent the last two seasons with the Aggies as a graduate assistant.

“It was easily the best choice and the best thing to do for myself, for the program and for the team,” Quinn said. “She has been here for two years already and knows the girls very well, and they all like and respect her a lot, as do I.”

She will assist with facet of the NM State program, including daily operations, recruiting, travel accommodations, budget, academics and on-field direction.

“I’m very excited to stay with the girls and to continue what we started in 2009,” Sobrero said. “I’m so glad Blair is here. I think he’s a great fit for the program, and I’m excited for the 2011 season.”  Continue Reading This Post >>

Blair Quinn Named NM State Head Women's Soccer Coach

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State Athletics Director Dr. McKinley Boston has hired Blair Quinn as the women’s soccer head coach. Quinn becomes the second head coach in Aggie school history.

“I’m very excited that coach Blair Quinn is joining the Aggie family as our next women’s soccer coach,” Boston said. “His coaching and playing experience is a great fit for New Mexico State. I believe he has the energy and enthusiasm to continue the success we’ve had the past two seasons.”

Quinn spent the previous four seasons as an assistant coach at Arizona State. He helped guide the Sun Devils to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2009 and 2010 for only the second time in school history.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NM State To Hold Press Conference Wednesday To Announce Hiring Of Women's Soccer Coach

New Mexico State will hold a press conference on Wednesday, April 13th at 1:30 p.m. to announce the new head coach for the women's soccer program. The press conference will be held in the Barbara Hubbard hospitality room on the second floor of the Pan American Center Annex and is open to the public.

DENVER, CO - The 2010-11 Academic All-WAC men’s and women’s cross country, football, soccer and volleyball teams were announced for fall. A total of 330 WAC student-athletes were named to the list for the fall including 42 student-athletes from New Mexico State. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests.
