Aggie Soccer Supporters, Save These Dates

Well can you believe that another school year is about to begin and our soccer student-athletes arrive on campus next week for their second season. To be perfectly honest, the first 20 months of my head coaching career have been an absolute whirlwind. The process of building this program is going extremely well so I just wanted to touch base personally and thank you for all of the support you have shown us.

We have an exciting season ahead of us. The successes of our first year behind us, we will build upon those this coming season. You will see many of the same values in place, but I believe you will see better and more attacking soccer this year. Our kids will continue to work harder, be more passionate, and be more committed than any team on our schedule. These core values in our program will remain constant as we continue to grow this program into a force to be reckoned with in the WAC, Southwest Region, and ultimately on the National Stage.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Soccer Signing Day Press Conference Quotes

Head Coach Michael Needham
We're excited about the 2010 class. It's a lot of different things but I think probably the biggest thing in this class is it's a balanced group of kids. We have attacking players, defensive players, goal keepers. We've added some depth at every position and definitely some very special athletes to the group.

On the success from last season and how it has affected recruiting
Obviously we did have some success last year. In women's soccer our recruiting goes one year, maybe two years ahead. I think the success we had this year is affecting our 2011 and 2012 classes a little more than this one. A lot of it is very similar to how we recruited last year and that is kids have an opportunity to play when they come here. From day one when they walk into training camp they're ready to go and if they're fit and getting the job done they'll have an opportunity to play. That's exciting for any young player coming out of high school and coming into college, the chance to play at a Division I level and play right away and not have to wait a couple years is probably been the biggest selling point for us.

I think any time you win games people get a little bit more excited about you. That's been great, again going forward into '11 and '12 it's allowed us to reach out not only throughout New Mexico and the borderland but also more into California and the west region of the United States. Even in this class, being able to attract players from even the east coast, we've have a player coming from Wilmington, DE this year that we wouldn't have gotten if we hadn't been as successful as we were this year.  Continue Reading This Post >>

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State soccer head coach Michael Needham has signed eight athletes to National Letters of Intent, on the first day of the signing period, Wednesday, Feb. 3.

Midfielder/forward Dani DeLaVina, midfielder Daisy Hernandez, defender Mary Kate Koziol, forward/midfielder Kristen Powers, midfielder/defender Olivia Sierra, midfielder Megan Thompson, defender Amber Vega and goalkeeper Erin Wosick join the Aggies in fall 2010.

“This class is a lot of different things and very balanced,” Needham said. “They will provide the competition in our training environment to keep our program moving in the right direction. Each player has individual qualities that will allow us to do many different things tactically and make us a very unpredictable team to play.

“We began the process of defining who Aggie women’s soccer is in our first year, and we look forward to the leadership of our current group to bring these student-athletes into the fold right away.”  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Soccer Needs Your Support At The Final Two Home Matches

Hello Aggie Fans!!

Things have been very busy around here, this building a program project has been a lot of hard work and very time consuming. I am sure you are aware but YOUR AGGIE WOMEN'S SOCCER PROGRAM is currently on top of the WAC standings and preparing for the "Home Stretch" of our inaugural season. We have accomplished many firsts so far this year and are on the cusp of reaching our goal of making the WAC Conference Tournament.

We need your help to make this happen, we are not asking for any handouts or financial donation. All we are asking for you and everyone you know to spend four hours in beautiful Aggie Memorial Stadium cheering on YOUR AGGIES! Our kids love this community and the support you have given us, and look forward to entertaining you two more times. Come out and see how hard these kids are working for each other, the NMSU community, and for Las Cruces.

We are currently 8-5-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the WAC Conference, this puts us on top of the standings with 10 Points. My calculations indicate that 12 Points will get us into the WAC Tournament (Wins=3, Ties=1, Losses=0), so we are right on the edge of making history again, with your help creating two more amazing home field environments we will achieve our goal sooner than later.  Continue Reading This Post >>
